Maia
Maia is a suburb of Porto. It lies in the northern part of the city. The Porto airport is located in Maia. Maia is both a suburb of Porto and a self sustaining city in its own right. One major industry is textiles. When I read in the Landīs End catalog about Portuguese clothe, I wonder if it was woven in this district. Many of these textile factories have a large English ownership. Many of the families attending th Oporto British School where in Portugal because of the textile industry.
During the period of 1996 to 1999, the Maia branch was part of the Porto Portugal Stake. During this time, the branch was made into a ward. The Porto Stake fell within the boundaries of the Portugal Porto Mission.
