| President Soares notified me that the new boundaries of the mission will include the Madeira islands. This change will take effect July 1, 2002. There are currently 14 missionaries serving on these islands. |

| Pres. West, how exactly does a switch like that take place? Do the missionaries on the island become part of the porto mission or do they just transfer all new missionaries in? |

| I believe that the missionaries will be transfered to the Porto Mission. That way all the institutional knowledge about the area is transfered at the same time. I do not have any strong opinions about this change. It will probably be better for the other two missions in Portugal. For the Porto mission, it means the mission president has additional, time consuming responsibilities. Travel to the islands will be more. Yet like most things in life and in the church, change will happen and you look for the blessings of the new circumstances. |

| There are only two missions in Portugal now. That's why Porto Mission received the islands. The Lisboa Norte and Sul Missions became Missão Lisboa, loosing those islands to the Porto Mission and also loosing Cabo Verde, that now has it's own mission. |
