I recently returned from a quick trip back to the mission. The bulk of the trip was in Spain, but I was able to work four days of Portugal in there. I traveled with my two roommates and they loved Portugal.
It has been three years since I left and nothing has changed. The country is still as calm and beautiful as it was when I left.
We had a car and based ourselves in Aveiro to take day trips north and south. Because I was with roommates who don't speak the language, I didn't visit members. I did visit the Ribeiro family in Santa Clara(Sandra Ribeiro was a mini-missionary with me when I was a greenie in Oliveiro do Douro) and the family is doing really well.
I attended church in Aveiro and that branch is doing well. They have combined the Agueda and Aveiro branches and that seems to have fortified both areas. The chapel was packed and they said that there are normally 10-15 more people each week. That was exciting. The new chapel should be complete before the end of the year. If you want information on the members there, please contact me by email. With the good news there is always the sad news and I will give that out as wanted.
I finally made it up to Braga. It was the only city I really wanted to serve in and made it. It was as wonderful as I imagined it to have been. We also went to Guimaraes, Feira and Coimbra.
The trip was great and I was sad to leave the country. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Tchauzinho,
Kara Thompson
